Crown and Bridge

Crowns and bridges are restorative dental treatments for lost and damaged teeth. The office at Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry of Tennessee offers high-quality, natural looking ceramic crowns and bridges that mimic the gloss and shine of your natural teeth. We take time and care to ensure that your restorations look natural to give you the best smile.

A crown (sometimes known as a "cap") is a tooth shaped covering that is used to treat a tooth that is badly damaged or decayed. Crowns are also used as anchors for dental bridges, to cover a dental implant and to protect teeth that have undergone root canal treatment. Using a crown not only improves aesthetics, but also restores oral form and function.

A crown is placed on an existing tooth by removing part of the enamel for the crown to fit. Once the tooth has been prepared, an impression is taken and sent to a dental laboratory where your custom crown is made. In the mean-time, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth for protection. At your next appointment, the temporary is removed and your custom crown is carefully cemented on to the tooth.

A bridge is a dental restoration used to fill the space created by missing teeth. When your natural teeth are missing, the adjacent teeth on either side of the gap can shift from their positions into the space. This can lead to imbalances in your bite as well as other oral problems. A bridge is anchored by crowns at both ends of the space.

The procedure for making a dental bridge is similar to that of a crown. The natural teeth on both sides of the gap are first prepared. Next, we take impressions of your mouth which are necessary for fabricating you dental bridge. A temporary restoration is placed in your mouth while the permanent one is being made by our dental lab. At your next appointment, your custom bridge is cemented into place.
