Fillings

Tooth-colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are also known as composite fillings or white fillings. They are used to restore decayed and damaged teeth, or to reshape disfigured teeth. Composite fillings are an excellent alternative to traditional metal fillings as they are virtually invisible and help you smile naturally. We can easily blend shades to create a color that matches with your natural teeth.

Also, unlike metal fillings, composite fillings actually bond to your natural tooth structure adding to its strength. They will not contract or expand with temperature variations caused by hot or cold foods, thereby decreasing the possibility of fracture in the restored tooth.

Prior to giving you a filling, the tooth is prepared by removing decay and cleaning the affected area to get rid of bacteria.  The composite material is then placed into the tooth and hardened using a special dental curing light. Once the filling has hardened, it is shaped and buffed to give the tooth a natural appearance. The composite is then polished to prevent wear and staining.

Below are a few tips on how you can take proper care of teeth that have composite fillings:

  • Brush and floss your teeth daily. Use a soft-bristled brush and non-abrasive toothpaste.
  • Avoid stain-causing foods such as wine, coffee, tea, etc.. Also avoid smoking.
  • Minimize the intake of sugary foods to prevent tooth decay.
  • Avoid biting down on hard foods such as ice.
  • Visit our practice regularly for check-ups and professional cleanings.

If you want to get fillings for your decayed teeth, or want a more natural-looking replacement for your existing metal fillings, composite fillings may be the answer for you.
